SToneCroft & Greyside MIne - engine house

This mine was worked for lead ores and Barytes from 1851 to 1898 and although little remains of the workings a superb brick built pumping engine house survives on a private estate nr Fourstones at NGR NY854689. The shaft is filled but some evidence of pitwork and the collar could be seen when visited, I was also told that the adjacent buildings (now stables etc) may have been part of the mine. The engine house itself is in excellent condition and worth a visit. Permission can be gained from the large house at the beginning of the lane on which the engine house is found.
